This week is “love” week and who doesn’t love love? I picked a photo from a shoot from 2011 and it epitomizes what I think love looks like.

Project 52: Red

This week’s project is “red”. I worked really hard all week and when it got time to work on this project, I was at a loss. What could I do that was RED? Then I wandered into my kitchen and suddenly EVERYTHING in there was RED!!

I chose a few of my favs.

First thing in the day, I love my canister of “red”

I always throw in a little “Red-capped” creamer goodness

And I end up putting all that stuff in my favorite heart-kissed cup (red, of course!)

And for good measure, I snapped shots of two other red things in my kitchen. One, a baby poinsettia is a new addition to the windowsill,

and lastly, my ladybug plate that my daughter gave me — she is called “ladybug” as a loving endearment, and so it is only fitting to be added to this pretty red collection…

Here is the place to find out more info about the very cool memory vault from Sandisk. I found out about this from a workshop online with this cool photography co. Zach and Jody. Sandisk promises your images will be protected on this vault for 100 years. Really? Well, imagine that!

Project 52:Black and White

Okay, so this week’s Project 52 is “black and white” and I thought I knew what I wanted to do for it, but unfortunately didn’t ever have time to do it. So, instead, I decided to make this a sort of show and tell, for all you shutterbugs out there.

I have NEVER used the B and W feature of my camera before until this very night, so you and I are experiencing this together.

I may never go back to using Photoshop to create black and white images again!!

This feature of my camera made the image SO RICH looking! Here is the original image (cropped and made smaller for the web) and the B and W one of the same image taken straight from camera.

Wow.

Project 52-Week 3 “Beginning”

This week’s theme is “beginning”. I know it sounds corny but every new year is like a new day and to me that newness just screams beginning. But how to put that in a photo? Then as I was surfing around I saw someone else’s post about something totally unrelated and it hit me.

What is the beginning of all things?

Well, it’s as old as the argument, which came first, the chicken or the ….

Park? What park

I have been doing my best to get caught up with edits, but to be honest, I am way behind. I am still working on graduation photos from last May, park photos from several months ago, and more recently, a wedding in December. Please do not kill me, folks. I am (as Fred Flintstone is known to say) “peddling as fast as I can”. I have some images of kids in the park that I am absolutely in love with and want to share but until I can…and while you wait on my turtle’s pace, enjoy these images.

Project 52 : Week Two-”12″

Okay, when I first realized this week was to be done as “12″ I sort of freaked a little. I mean, 12? What out of the box sort of photo could I take that would relate to that? Well… the answer my friend, was blinking in the end…because you see the day before yesterday we had a power outage and … yes, I haven’t fixed my coffeepot yet.

I haven’t really used the program feature in a long time to be honest. It’s just as quick for me to make the pot as I am washing up the morning dishes. So, for some time now, my coffeemaker has been blinking 12:00 at me. Just a friendly reminder that there are a lot of things waiting on me to fix them.

I sort of LIKE this week’s offering now that I am thinking about it. I could have done a LOT of things that are or make up 12. For now I will leave you with these…

My personal project

Me sort of

So when I agreed to do the Project 52 a few weeks ago, I was totally unaware that the first assignment would be a self-portrait. Sorry if I am NOT creative with this one. I guess the one thing that I have learned through all the efforts of getting a decent enough image this week has been that I hate how I look. I think that is what makes me most effective behind the camera, because I suck being in front of one.

I can make everyone else in the world look great but not me, no not me.

I did a lot of reflection about this whole self-portrayal thing. I don’t think I know who I am yet. I am a wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to many, but to myself? I am totally in the dark. I am a writer, a photographer, and a film-maker, but all that creative stuff does not help me when I am trying to portray myself. When I write I am involved with creating worlds that are not me, and the books go to people who do not really know me, so there is not a lot of self-anything in that endeavor. And photography, well, it’s just a way to avoid having people focus on me, but rather on the subject in the viewfinder, or in the image after the fact.

I am glad this week is done, but I have a feeling that the effects of it will be felt for a long time to come, because now I really DO want to know WHO AM I?
